Course Overview

This course will cover an array of subjects that will enable you to create and submit small woodland management plans for up to 2 hectares and at the end of the course you will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to survey and complete the Forestry Commission template.

 

Throughout the course, you'll explore key topics including:

·Woodland Structure and Systems: Understand the intricate balance of flora and fauna that defines a healthy woodland.

·Legal and Environmental Constraints: Learn to navigate the various designations and constraints that can impact woodland management.

·Economic and Social Considerations: Explore how woodlands can be managed sustainably while considering economic viability and community involvement.

·Surveying and Monitoring: Gain hands-on experience in basic woodland surveying techniques and learn how to measure and assess forest resources effectively.

·Pests and Diseases: Identify common threats to woodland health and strategies to mitigate these risks.

By the end of this course, you will have:

Completed your own woodland management plan, using the principles of sustainable forestry.

You’ll not only leave with an understanding of woodland management but also with practical skills to complete the Small Woodland Management plan template and submit to Forestry England.
