Spend a wonderful day at One Garden Brighton, home of our Stanmer Campus, and learn from our expert Plumpton College Horticulture tutors, to understand how to understand soil and the growing environment.

The workshop will give you the basics in understanding soil and the growing environment.

During the workshop you will learn:

-soil formation processes and the factors that influence soil development,

-the nature of soil profiles and key soil horizon types,

-the practical aspects of soil description – hand texturing to assess soil structure and theory and practical tasks to understand the pH (potential of hydrogen) of soil

- organic matter types and soil amelioration

- about mycorrhizal fungi and the wood-wide web.

Also during your workshop get a tour of One Garden.

The recent restoration of the walled garden has been managed by Plumpton College. One Garden Brighton is the home of the college’s horticultural centre of excellence, a space for training and education. The campus buildings are nestled within the walls itself and you will see students designing, planting and maintaining the grounds as a showcase for innovation.
