The RHS Level 3 Certificate in Practical Horticulture is ​ideal for those who want to build on knowledge and skills to progress in horticultural roles or specialise in particular garden areas and landscapes. Ideally suited to those seeking supervisory or management roles, this qualification will provide all elements to demonstrate competence, confidence and leadership.

The RHS Level 3 Diploma in Horticulture is awarded when learners have completed the following 3 qualifications-  Level 3 Certificate in Practical Horticulture, Level 3 Certificate in the Principles of Plant Growth, Garden Planning and applied Propagation and the Level 3 Award in Horticulture Investigation.

  • Open to applicants who hold either a relevant Level 2 horticultural qualification or can demonstrate comparable relevant experience before pursuing Level 3

How will I be assessed?

Practical Horticulture

In order to achieve this qualification, learners must complete and attain (pass, merit, distinction):

  • Online Competence Assessment Test (multi-choice questionnaire)
  • Plant identification test
  • Practical Competence Assessment Test, made up of 3 tasks, assessed by an RHS examiner under exams conditions

Entry Requirements

It is strongly recommended that you have prior attainment of the RHS Level 2 qualification (practical and theory) as the course builds on those skills. There is an expectation of prior horticultural knowledge and experience.

You will require steel toe capped boots or protective footwear. You may wish to bring your own secateurs. 

This course requires 90% minimum attendance so learners can be ready for their end of year assessment

As part of this course, learners will need to allocate one day per week for homework
