Irish Students Pay Home Tuition Fees

We welcome applications from students from the Republic of Ireland. If you are an Irish citizen and meet the relevant residency requirements, you may be eligible to study in England while paying the same tuition fees as British (Home) students. This means you can benefit from home fee status rather than paying higher international student fees.

Common Travel Area Eligibility and Student Grant Support

The Common Travel Area (CTA) gives Irish and UK citizens the right to access all levels of education and training in each other’s state. You must also meet the residency criteria to access financial support. Please note, you must be resident in Ireland for 3 years before the start of your course to be eligible under the CTA. 

You may also be eligible for a maintenance grant under the Irish Student Grant Scheme. 

Flexible Routes to Your Degree

Most undergraduate degrees take 3 years full-time, while our accelerated BSc (Hons) Sustainable Agriculture and BSc (Hons) Rural Land & Business Management courses take 2 years. Foundation degrees (years 1 and 2 of a bachelor’s degree) typically last 2 years and may be topped up to a full BSc (Hons), depending on the course.

Our BSc (Hons) Veterinary Physiotherapy is available via distance learning, with 4 (occasionally 5) weeks of in-person practical tuition and assessments each year. On-campus short-stay accommodation with meals is available during these periods.

With accommodation for up to 203 students on campus, living at Plumpton College can make it easier to study with us wherever you are coming from. Our residential provision was rated “Outstanding” in all areas by OFSTED, making it a welcoming and high-quality place to live while you study. We also offer bursary support, alongside help from a range of charitable foundations, to make accommodation more accessible to students from a wide range of financial backgrounds.

Support for Full-Time Irish Students at Plumpton

If you’re joining us from Ireland, you can access our Irish Student Support Package (eligibility criteria applies) which includes:

  • Travel voucher up to £50 
  • UK (Home) tuition fees (Tuition loans can help cover the costs)  
  • 10% discount for full board accommodation on-campus 
  • £1,000 discount on full time undergraduate tuition fees per academic year 
  • Free return shuttle to Gatwick Airport (once per term) 
  • Apply for the HE Hardship Fund (T&Cs apply) of up to £1,000 per academic year

Entry requirements for students from the Republic of Ireland 

The entry requirements you need to meet will depend on the course you want to study. We recommend the following minimum qualifications to study undergraduate courses: 

Irish Leaving Certificate (Higher Level):

Importantly, you must have studied relevant subjects and achieved strong grades.
