Course Overview
The Land-based Service Engineer Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard is designed for technicians looking to develop advanced skills and progress within the land-based engineering sector. Equipping apprentices with knowledge, behaviours and practical expertise to provide advanced technical support across a wide range of agricultural, horticultural, plant and land-based machinery this programme has been developed partnership with industry to enable apprentices to gain the full range of skills and behaviours needed to become highly competent service engineers.
Land-based Service Engineering Technicians typically work customers premises, inspecting, diagnose and repair complex faults on advanced technical machinery, and using initiative to solve problems on the spot. This is a customer-facing role in which you will provide technical advice and support to customers. In order to be successful, apprentices need to develop a broad understanding of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, as well as strong communication and problem-solving skills.
This apprenticeship opens the door to a wide range of roles within the land-based engineering sector.

Delivery Model
This apprenticeship will launch in October 2026, and will be delivered by block delivery, with an induction block in November 2026, followed by 7 further blocks throughout the academic year.
Entry Requirements
GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 and above (or equivalent)
Basic IT skills and competence to complete online portfolios
Employed in a relevant job role with the opportunity to undertake the range of tasks required to enable qualification completion

You must be in a role that will allow you the opportunity to develop the necessary skills, knowledge and behaviours set out in the apprenticeship. Additionally, apprentices must have a working level of maths and English that will allow successful achievement of level 1 functional skill prior to the end point assessment.
