Course Overview
Build your knowledge, skills and confidence with our practical Bakery course. This engaging programme gives students a strong overview of the bakery industry, alongside experience in a wide range of essential baking techniques.
Whether you’re looking to start your own bakery business, develop your existing skills, or create new and innovative baked products, this course will help you take the next step.
Students will finish the course with a recognised industry qualification, helping to enhance their CV and support future career opportunities within the bakery sector.
With skilled bakers in demand, this course also helps address an important skills shortage in the bakery industry.
Modules
Students will study all of the following:
- Bulk Fermentation Process
- Chorleywood Process
- Food Hygiene
- Health & Safety
- Pre Bake Skills
- Proving and retarding
- Baking and frying skills
- Product finishing and decorating skills
- Storage
- Waste management
- Packing & labelling
This course is 70% practical and30% theory, with a mix of planning, practical baking and decorative workshops.
Assessment
Students will be assessed via observation, self assessment and portfolio work.
Entry Requirements
This course is aimed at the following:
- Home bakers who want to expand their knowledge/skill set and gain a certified qualification
- Those either setting up or planning to start a bakery business from home
- Chefs looking to expand their skill set for the purposes of creating breads and other bakery items for their menus
- Those either setting up or planning to start a bakery business in the high street , online or as a wholesale enterprise.
Funding Information
Students aged 19+, on low income who can prove they earn less than £25,750 or are unemployed and receive state benefits could be entitled to a tuition fee waiver for this course. Students must be ordinarily resident in the UK and not living in a devolved area.
