Job Description: Agricultural Graduate Student – JCB Driver & Worker
Overview
Brodie Biomass is a pioneer company involved in producing biochar that works in tandem with Brodie Farms a 500 acre farm based in the Surrey Hills who are transitioning to a regenerative farming model.
Brodie Biomass seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Agricultural Graduate Student to join our team as a JCB Driver and General Worker. This role offers a hands-on opportunity for recent graduates with an agricultural background to gain practical experience within the rapidly developing biochar sector. The successful candidate will not only play a key part in our daily operations, supporting sustainable energy production and contributing to our commitment to environmental stewardship, but also in a rapidly growing business.
Main Responsibilities
• Operate JCB machinery for the movement and processing of biochar, wood chip and compost materials.
• Day to day monitoring and maintenance of associated drying and pyrolysis equipment.
• General farm labouring work, including maintenance work on fields and woods.
• Assist with the intake, handling, and storage of feedstock, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
• Conduct routine checks and basic maintenance of machinery, reporting any defects or safety concerns promptly.
• Support the day-to-day running of the site, including general labour, cleaning, and other operational tasks as required.
• Work collaboratively with other team members to maximise efficiency and maintain a safe working environment.
• Follow all company procedures and regulatory guidelines relating to the handling of agricultural and biomass materials.
Person Specification
• A recent graduate or final-year student in Agriculture, Agricultural Science, or a related discipline.
• Experience with tractors, and farm machinery operation, JCB or similar plant equipment (training can be provided). Associated qualifications are preferable.
• Strong understanding of agricultural practices and a keen interest in renewable energy and sustainability.
• Physically fit, with the ability to undertake manual work in an outdoor, all-weather environment.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
• A proactive attitude, with a willingness to learn and adapt to new tasks.
• A full, clean driving licence is required; telehandler or loader tickets are an advantage.
