PPE requirements 

It is mandatory under Health and Safety protocols that you wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at ALL times when working with the animals, to protect both you and them. Failure to comply with the rules on PPE will mean that you will NOT be able to participate in your practical session, which will have a serious effect on your grades. Students are expected to change into the required clothing on the unit, and remove them before leaving the unit.

Please ensure that your PPE is regularly washed at high temperatures. It is essential that you do NOT wear any outer clothing that may have been contaminated and that you do not wear your Plumpton PPE when visiting farms, horse yards, zoos, or any other sites with animals.

To maintain professional standards, all piercings and jewellery must be removed during practical sessions.

Material & consumable fees:
We are hugely proud of our department and work hard to achieve great results and success for our students. We invest in the highest quality resources and equipment for your studies to maintain these standards and uphold the College and Departmental values. We need to ask for a percentage of this cost from students and their guardians to ensure we continue to give students the best possible experience.

Whilst we heavily subsidise these costs, with the global rises in the price of fuels and raw materials, unfortunately, as a significant consumer of these materials, we have had to incorporate these new costs into our fees this year. The materials fees for each year of study on your course are: £150

Payment Options
Following your enrolment, an invoice will be issued, complete with instructions on how to make payment in full or, alternatively, set up an instalment plan. The standard instalment plans are as follows:

• Monthly – 7 equal monthly instalments, to be collected on the 1st of September and March
• OR Termly - 3 equal instalments, to be collected on the 1st of September, January and April

If you feel you need more than these standard plans to be viable for yourself, we offer a third non- standard option, whereby we add some earlier (i.e. pre-September) monthly instalments prior to enrolment, spreading the cost over a greater number of months. If you would like to set up a non-standard payment plan on this basis, please contact the finance team at accounts@plumpton.ac.uk or 01273 890454 to discuss.

Our Fees Policy states:
Where courses require material/consumables which are essential to complete your study, this will be included in the price of your course fees or, if your course is fully funded, this will be included in the funding. In some cases, the College makes an extra equipment/consumable charge when the student has the opportunity to take work projects away during the course. This will apply to all students, regardless of their fee assessment.

To ensure every learner is fully prepared for practical grooming work, the course includes a structured equipment list tailored to your qualification level.

If you are enrolled on Level 2, please follow the Level 2 equipment checklist. If you are enrolled on Level 3, please follow the Level 3 equipment checklist.

In fisheries and aquatic science, it is essential to be prepared for both theoretical work and practical applications. Students should ensure they are equipped with a functioning laptop and access to IT systems for lessons.
