One Garden Brighton is seeking a reliable, organised and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to support the daily operation of the kitchen and bakery service within our vibrant visitor attraction.
This is a practical, hands‑on role, ideal for someone who enjoys working in a fast‑paced food environment and takes pride in high standards of food preparation, presentation and hygiene.
About the Role
As a Kitchen Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting the smooth running of the kitchen and bakery provision at One Garden Brighton. You will be responsible for preparing grab‑and‑go food items, ensuring the bakery counter is well stocked and presented, and maintaining a clean, safe and well‑organised kitchen environment.
Working closely with the kitchen, bakery and front‑of‑house teams, you will help ensure visitors receive high‑quality food offerings and a consistently positive experience.
You will:
- Prepare a consistent range of grab‑and‑go food items in line with recipes, portion guidance and food safety standards
- Support food preparation tasks under the direction of the kitchen team
- Package, label and store food correctly in accordance with food safety requirements
- Receive, organise and display baked goods supplied by the bakery team
- Ensure the bakery counter is fully stocked, attractively presented and maintained throughout service
- Follow stock rotation procedures to minimise waste and maintain freshness
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and organisation within all kitchen areas
- Clean and sanitise work surfaces, equipment, utensils and storage areas
- Assist with washing up and waste disposal as required
- Report hazards, maintenance issues or equipment faults promptly
- Assist with deliveries, stock storage and inventory rotation
- Follow all internal policies, procedures and food safety standards, including allergen awareness
- Work collaboratively with chefs, bakers and front‑of‑house colleagues
- Support events, functions and College promotional activities, including occasional evening working
You will also contribute to maintaining the reputation of One Garden Brighton as a high‑quality food and visitor destination.
About You
We are looking for a motivated and dependable individual who takes pride in high standards, works well within a team and remains calm and organised in a busy environment.
Essential:
- Experience working in a kitchen, café or food service environment
- Understanding of food hygiene and preparation practices
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment
- Able to work under pressure and manage competing priorities
- Flexible approach to working hours, including weekends and bank holidays
Desirable:
- Personal Licence holder
- Full UK driving licence
- Access to own vehicle
- First Aid qualification
You will be proactive, adaptable and committed to delivering food services to a high standard.
Working Hours
This role is 32.5 hours per week, worked Wednesday to Sunday, 07:00–14:00.
One Garden Brighton is open seven days per week, all year round. Some flexibility will be required to support evening functions, events and whole‑college promotional activities.
