What is it like to be a student on this course?
If you’re considering the Introduction to Canine Behaviour course at Plumpton College, you can expect an engaging and informative learning experience focused on understanding how dogs think, communicate, and behave. The course is delivered as a 10-week evening programme, making it ideal for those fitting study around work or other commitments.
As a student, you would explore topics such as canine domestication, breed traits, developmental stages, body language, factors that influence behaviour, and common behaviour issues. Rather than concentrating on dog training techniques alone, the course helps you understand the reasons behind canine behaviour and how dogs communicate with the people and animals around them.
The course is theory-based, so you can expect classroom discussions, case studies, and opportunities to apply the concepts to dogs you know or work with. It is suitable for dog owners wanting a better relationship with their pets, as well as those considering careers involving dogs, such as dog walking, grooming, kennel work, or animal care.
Students often find that the course changes the way they interpret canine behaviour, helping them recognise subtle communication signals and respond more effectively to behavioural challenges. The supportive learning environment and knowledgeable tutors encourage discussion and the sharing of experiences with fellow dog enthusiasts. Former students have highlighted how the course improved both their understanding of dogs and their confidence in working with them.
