Plumpton College is seeking a reliable and conscientious Janitor to join our Estates team. This is a vital, hands-on role supporting the smooth day-to-day operation of our campus and residential facilities, ensuring a safe, clean and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors  

About the role 

Reporting to the Estates Manager, you will deliver a high-quality cleaning and caretaking service across communal, residential and external areas of the College. You will also provide reactive and emergency support to the Estates team as required, contributing to the effective running of a busy land-based education environment  

Key responsibilities 

  • Deliver comprehensive cleaning across campus buildings, residential areas and shared facilities 

  • Maintain hygiene, infection control and health and safety standards at all times 

  • Empty and manage internal and external waste, including clinical waste where applicable 

  • Replenish cleaning supplies and toiletries and support stock control 

  • Carry out litter picking and maintain designated outdoor areas, including smoking zones 

  • Undertake minor maintenance tasks and report defects promptly 

  • Support room set-ups for events, exams and functions 

  • Respond efficiently to reactive and emergency estates tasks 

  • Complete required daily and weekly compliance checks  

What we’re looking for 

You will be practical, dependable and take pride in maintaining high standards. You will also demonstrate: 

  • Previous commercial cleaning experience 

  • Good manual handling capability 

  • Knowledge of Health & Safety and COSHH 

  • A full UK driving licence 

  • Fluent spoken and written English 

  • Confidence using mobile devices for time, attendance and email 

  • The right to work in the UK without visa sponsorship  

Working pattern 

Core hours are 10:00–18:30, Monday to Friday, with flexibility required to support College activities. Occasional evening and weekend working will be necessary during events and peak periods. This is an all-year-round role.
