Course overview
If you enjoy working outdoors and have an interest in trees,
woodlands and the natural environment, the Trees and Woodland T Level could be
the right choice for you.
This two-year Level 3 course will help you develop the knowledge, practical
skills and professional behaviours needed for a career in tree and woodland
management and maintenance. You will learn about the importance of trees and
woodlands, how they are managed sustainably, and the role they play in
supporting biodiversity, landscapes and communities.
As part of the course, you will study the wider principles of the
agriculture, land management and production sector, including sustainability,
environmental legislation, climate change, biosecurity, health and safety,
customer care and project management. You will then apply this knowledge to the
specialist area of tree and woodland management and maintenance.
You will develop an understanding of:
- Tree and woodland management and maintenance
- Sustainable land management and environmental responsibility
- The protection and enhancement of habitats and biodiversity
- Safe working practices, risk assessment and biosecurity
- Professional communication and customer care
- Planning, organising and evaluating land-based work
- Employment opportunities and progression within the sector
The course includes a minimum nine-week industry placement, giving you the
opportunity to gain valuable experience with an employer and see how your
learning is applied in a professional setting. This practical experience will
help you build confidence, develop workplace skills and understand the range of
career opportunities available.
The Trees and Woodland T Level can prepare you for progression into roles
such as forestry worker, tree surgeon, arboricultural officer, countryside
ranger or other careers in land management, forestry and the wider environmental
sector.
