Course overview

Rethink plant selection and planting design for a
changing climate.
Our gardens and landscapes are facing increasingly
challenging conditions. Drought, heat, intense rainfall, unpredictable seasons
and extreme weather events are changing the way we need to think about
planting.
This one-day course explores how planting designers and
horticulturists can create resilient landscapes that remain beautiful,
functional and ecologically valuable under changing conditions.
Rather than
simply identifying a list of ‘drought-tolerant’ plants, we will explore the
principles behind resilient planting: understanding site conditions, working
with soils, selecting appropriate plants, creating plant communities and
designing for change.

Modules

You will explore:• How climate change is affecting gardens and landscapes• Understanding microclimates• Plant communities and ecological planting • Selecting resilient plants• Managing water and reducing irrigation requirements• Future-proofing planting schemes
