Course overview
Coming back into education should be exciting and inspiring; instead, it may
feel daunting and overwhelming.
The Outreach programme at Plumpton College has been designed with this in
mind and is for students who have been out of full-time education and who
requires a gentler transition to progress in education. It aims to help them be
confident about their next steps and potential career choices.
Student start on a 1-1 basis for 1 hour a week and they increase their time
at college to join smaller groups (7-8 students) on 1 day, to slightly bigger
groups (up to 15) when they increase to 2 days.
There are 2 main parts to the programme, one focusing on personal development
(future planning, healthy living, anxiety management, social interactions) and
the other focusing on careers in the land-based sector and it is designed to
develop study skills. Students will have opportunities to visit other curriculum
areas as part of this. Additionally, students participate in practical
activities when they attend on the third day later in the year.
What support will be offered?
Our caring and supportive Outreach team will meet with each young person to
discuss their needs and interests before welcoming them into small and nurturing
groups. They will encourage the students with regular target setting to help
them develop confidence and prepare for their future studies. It is an inclusive
programme due to the small class sizes (up to 15) and LSA support
available.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is completed through modules and learners will be supported to complete these throughout the year. Assessment tasks include a mixture of written, practical, discussion, role play and product creation activities.
What is it like to be a student on this course?
You’ll be supported in a friendly and welcoming classroom environment, where you’ll develop your knowledge, skills and confidence for your next steps. Through classroom-based activities, you’ll learn about different vocational pathways and the opportunities available within the college. Together, you’ll create a progression plan based on your interests, strengths and future goals, helping you understand the opportunities available to you.
