1st Prize for Plumpton Students

On the 13th March, 2019 Rural Pathway students attended the Jim Green Challenge which is held annually at the South of England showground, Ardingly. The students won 1st prize in two categories, with their scarecrow and prepare a flower bed for planting.

The event is held in memory of Jim and the competition celebrates his lifelong interest in the education of young people and is specifically designed for students in land–based colleges who have mild to moderate learning difficulties.

Students are required to partake in a range of practical activities on the day including planting up a window box and preparing a flowerbed for planting. In the preceding months they are expected to complete various creative works of art including making a 2m high scarecrow, a 3D landscape, a hedgehog home and recycled sculpture.

Every year there is a theme and this year it was bees. Barnabee the Steam Punk Bee was so popular he has been asked to be used on an exhibit at the South of England Show in June. The students demonstrated good communication and teamwork skills and were true ambassadors for Plumpton College. Well done to all our hard working students this year!
