Course Overview

Looking to begin your landscape construction career, or already work in the field but would like to upskill and boost your career prospects?

Our NEW Skills Bootcamp in Construction Landscaping is the first of it’s kind to encompass both theory and legislative training in a one-stop-shop. Designed alongside industry leaders, successful completion of this course will enable you to apply for exciting job roles where prior training and knowledge is a mandatory requirement. 

Students will meet like-minded students who are at the same career stage which gives them the opportunity to forge a network and community within the industry whilst they study.

Delivery & Attendance

This course will be delivered in person at our impressive Plumpton College campus.

For some modules, there will be some pre-reading work ahead of attendance. 

The practical sessions are designed so that students put into practice the theory that they have learnt in the classroom.

  • Site surveying and setting out measurements to a plan   
  • Fence erection (Close panel fencing)  
  • Block paving & Brick laying inc. Lime mortar management & Introduction to flintwork including repairs.  
  • Writing & Understanding Risk Assessments  
  • Budgets & People 
  • Emergency First Aid at Work  
  • SSSTS Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme (CITB) 
  • Lantra Brush Cutter / Strimmer  
  • Lantra Location and Cable Avoidance Tools (CAT & Genny)  
  • Lantra Abrasive Wheel Machines
  • Introduction to hand tools and safe use & Introduction to power tools and safe use  

Assessment

You will be assessed through practical activities and quizzes. 

The Lantra courses will be assessed by your Lantra Trainer. The Emergency First Aid at Work and Understanding Risk Assessments will be assessed by the trainer on the level of participation of students and completion of classroom-based activity throughout the course. 

FAQs

Is this course suitable to study alongside employment?  

This is a Skills Bootcamp and is designed specifically to enhance your job prospects, however you will required to attend for a 3 week block Monday – Friday so may need to be agreed with your line manager. 

Can I stay overnight on campus if I live far away?

Entry Requirements

This course is suitable for those currently working in or seeking employment within the landscape construction sector.

  • Applicants must be at least 19 years old
  • Applicants must ideally live or work in and around East Sussex
  • No previous experience required, but a passion for the outdoors is a must
  • 100% attendance is a mandatory requirement

Equipment

In preparation for practical activities undertaken on the course, students are required to bring:

  • Good sturdy footwear such as steel toe cap boots  
  • Working clothes or overalls  
  • Wet weather gear
  • Hat  
  • Sunscreen  
  • Packed Lunch  

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required: 

  • Steel toe capped boots  

  • Tough, non-snag work clothing i.e overalls  

  • Gloves with protection to the back of the hand i.e rigger type 

                          With 

  • F rated Polycarbonate visor 

  • Ear defenders 

                             Or 

  • Forestry Helmet with safety mesh Visor and Ear defenders attached 

  • Tight-fitting gloves (to protect the hands if sharp parts are being handled)

  • Safety glasses with side shields, Type EN166B (to prevent chips from reaching the eyes)  

  • Long trousers, steel toe cap boots 

  • Face mask FFP3 

  • Hearing protection - to prevent hearing damage from the noise created by grinding
