Leadership & Communication: Learn how to build strong teams, communicate effectively, and handle difficult conversations with confidence.

Technical Expertise: Understand felling licence applications, interpret tree survey reports and woodland management plans, and respond to pests and diseases, including Ash Dieback.

Legislation & Compliance: Get to grips with ICOP, relevant arboricultural legislation, and responsibilities under health and safety law.

Site Management & Safety: Gain critical skills in co-ordinating work operations, conducting audits, managing risk assessments, and implementing emergency tree work protocols.

Conservation & Biosecurity: Deepen your knowledge of soil science, tree identification, and biosecurity best practices.

Inspection Training: Includes Lantra Basic Tree Inspection and Plumpton College’s Intermediate Tree Inspection for confident, competent decision-making in the field. Use of our own digital technologies including Sonic Tomograph, resi-drill and interpreting readings.

Operational Oversight: Learn how to allocate and monitor the use of machinery, vehicles, and equipment safely and efficiently.

Professional Development: This course also includes SSSTS certification and practical strategies for supporting team performance and productivity.

- Supervisor/Team Leader - Roles & Responsibilities
- Understanding Felling License Applications for Arborists & Interpreting Tree Survey Reports / Woodland Management Plans
- Pest & Disease (Inc Ash Die Back IPS Typo)
- Developing and Maintaining Good Occupational Working Relationships in the Workplace (Effective communication & Having difficult conversations)
- Lantra Basic Tree Inspection / Plumpton Intermediate Tree Inspection
- Understanding ICOP and Legislation (Your responsibilities) Co-ordinating and organising work operations in the workplace (to include Site safety, auditing)
- Emergency Tree Works & Tree Identification, Biosecurity, conservation & Soil and Topography Assessment,
- Writing & Understanding Risk Assessments & Allocating and monitoring the use of plant, machinery, equipment or vehicles in the workplace
- SSSTS & Implementing procedures to support team performance in the workplace
Assessment
You will be assessed via a range of different methods including practical observations, timed quizzes, essays, and professional discussions and a digital portfolio.
You will also be assessed externally in relation to any certificate of competence based training.
You will be expected to implement to practically apply the skills, knowledge and behaviours into your working practices.
Entry Requirements
19+
Anyone with 2+ years experience in the arboriculture industry.
Qualified climbers not essential.
As part of your career progression, it is not expected that you are a fully qualified / lead climber as the necessary skills required to be a team leader requires you to have both feet on the ground.
This course takes a fresh look at who can be a team leader when considering site / supervision / safety.
