Course Overview
Coming back into education should be exciting and inspiring; instead, it may feel daunting and overwhelming.
The Outreach programme at Plumpton College has been designed with this in mind and is for students who have been out of full-time education and who requires a gentler transition to progress in education. It aims to help them be confident about their next steps and potential career choices.
Student start on a 1-1 basis for 1 hour a week and they increase their time at college to join smaller groups (7-8 students) on 1 day, to slightly bigger groups (up to 15) when they increase to 2 days.
There are 2 main parts to the programme, one focusing on personal development (future planning, healthy living, anxiety management, social interactions) and the other focusing on careers in the land-based sector and it is designed to develop study skills. Students will have opportunities to visit other curriculum areas as part of this. Additionally, students participate in practical activities when they attend on the third day later in the year.
What support will be offered?
Our caring and supportive Outreach team will meet with each young person to discuss their needs and interests before welcoming them into small and nurturing groups. They will encourage the students with regular target setting to help them develop confidence and prepare for their future studies. It is an inclusive programme due to the small class sizes (up to 15) and LSA support available.
Entry Requirements
It is open to all students aged 16-18 and up to 22 with an EHCP. Most of the students will have Social Emotional and Mental Health needs. Students must be working at and able to access a level 1 course as we offer a BTEC level 1 qualification as part of the programme.
