Course Overview
This course aims to develop an understanding of what hydrotherapy is and how it is of benefit to animals. It is the perfect introduction for someone interested in becoming a hydrotherapist before embarking on the required qualifications, or for those with a general interest in the field.
- This course will be taught in-person, with an 80% theory, 20% practical split.
- Learners can progress to the L3 Certificate in Small Animal Hydrotherapy to then progress into employment as a hydrotherapist upon completion of this course.
Modules
The course includes topics such as:
- What is hydrotherapy
- Why it is used and its benefits
- Basic water properties and how they assist treatment
- The life of a hydrotherapist
- Cold water swimming vs hydrotherapy
- Handling of dogs for fun swims
- Basic gait analysis and what to look for with your own dog
- Session demonstrations for medical cases
As this is an introductory course, please note you will not be treating rehabilitation cases and further study is required to work as a small animal hydrotherapist.
Assessment
This course is not formally assessed. Knowledge and understanding will be checked through in-class activities.
Entry Requirements
This course is suitable for anyone with an interest in canine rehabilitation and hydrotherapy. There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification.
