Course Overview

The course will cover the types of yeast used in winemaking, the chemistry of fermentation, and the contribution of yeast to the sensorial properties of wine.There will also be a short lab based practical to look at yeast cells under the microscope and undertake yeast counts.

Assessment

At the end of the course, participants will take part in a short multiple-choice quiz to assess their learning.

Please note Plumpton College Wine Division have recently secured some funding, allowing for a reduction in price to a selection of wine courses, subject to eligibility*.

*Learners will be eligible for funding if they were aged over 19 on 31st August 2024 and have been resident in the UK for the last 3 years. Learners living in devolved areas (eg Greater London Combined Authority) will not be eligible for funding. Learners currently undertaking an apprenticeship will not be eligible for funding.

Entry Requirements

This course is ideal for new entrants to the wine industry who want to learn about fermentation and vineyard managers, winemakers and operations staff who want to refresh their basic theoretical knowledge. No prior knowledge or experience of fermentation is required.
