Description

If you’re looking to teach in one of the most important industries in the land-based sector, you’ll certainly find it in agriculture at Plumpton College.

At Plumpton College we have recently completed an £11m Agri-Food investment programme and we're looking to recruit enthusiastic industry experts to join our highly successful Agri-Food and Environment division to inspire the next generation in agriculture.

Our investment has created first class resources and teaching facilities including:

  • The introduction of Lely A5 Robots for our high-yielding dairy cows to complement our crossbred herd milked at a GEA Herringbone parlour
  • A brand-new state of the art high welfare 120 sow breeding to finishing pig unit
  • A fully-functional bio-secure system to ensure the highest standards in farm security and teaching resources to benefit students
  • A new state of the art agri-food centre with new classrooms, meeting rooms and a training development kitchen
  • A new butchery department, fully furnished with the latest equipment and teaching resources

As part of our new strategic plan, we are also now developing our new 5-year-Farm Strategy to ensure we best utilise these new facilities and our 800ha estate to demonstrate the best farming practices to our students through increased productivity, a drive towards more regenerative practices, and a reducing carbon footprint.

We are now looking to recruit a number of key individuals with excellent industry skills (across disciplines including livestock, arable, business, and mechanisation) and aspirations to be lecturers in this flagship curriculum area, to support the growth and development of our new facility. If you are not an experienced teacher we will support you to develop your teaching skills through our trainee teacher programme. This will involve a reduced teaching commitment whilst you gain your credentials to become a qualified teacher.

For those who are experienced teachers you will hold a relevant teaching qualification, and will continue to develop through the many CPD opportunities available to all academic staff. Our brilliant teacher training options allow those with industry experience to gain a teaching qualification under the guidance of our expert Teaching & Learning team. We offer all staff without Level 2 in English and maths the opportunity to gain the qualifications, and have the provision and tools in place to help them achieve. Neurodiverse candidates can be assured we have created a welcoming and empathetic workplace, with buddies, quiet areas, clear structures, and regular 1:1s a part of work life for all, and assistive technology available if required.

The ideal candidates will hold a degree or equivalent qualification in agriculture, or have industry experience that our students can benefit from. You will be a professional, hardworking, and confident team player with a track record of good or outstanding teaching and above all you will be passionate about what you do!

This is an amazing opportunity to be able to inspire and motivate our students helping them to maximise their potential and make positive progress towards their timely success, future study, and employment in the agriculture industry.

Benefits

As well as a competitive salary, you can also look forward to a great range of benefits including: up to 37 days annual leave plus bank holidays, and up to 5 efficiency days at Christmas; membership of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme; comprehensive CPD and teacher training (where applicable); TOTUM card; Employee Assistance Programme; free onsite parking; discounted Plumpton wine; staff discounts on Plumpton courses; free eye tests; cycle to work scheme; and free use of the onsite gym.
