Person wanted to work alongside myself and my previous

apprentice in three large country gardens situated in East

Sussex and Kent. Applicant must have a keen interest in

horticulture and be willing to commit to hard physical work in all

weathers starting early in the morning all year round and

regularly working late in the spring through to autumn as and

when required.

Applicant must be able to think on their feet and will be trained

to be competent in the following tasks; mowing, strimming and

brush cutting, hedge cutting, border maintenance, planting and

establishment of a wide range of plant stock, plant identification,

pest and disease identification, orchard maintenance, wildflower

meadow maintenance, some vegetable gardening and

glasshouse work, pruning and training, water feature

maintenance and garden waste management.

Wednesdays at college, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and

Friday at work.

8am – 4pm winter hours/8am - until required from spring to

autumn, 7pm being the absolute latest finish.

We work a minimum of eight hours a day. Hours fluctuate from

late winter until late autumn, although they should now stabilise

in light of the team becoming 3-strong.

Skills required:

Good communication skills, punctuality, commitment, ability to

think on their feet, good practical ability, willingness to work in

all weathers and all year round. (It may come as a shock to rise

in the dark and leave a garden in the dark in the winter!),

willingness to contribute readily to an organised and friendly
