Another busy and successful week for our Sports Academies!
Sailing – written by George Taylor, Sailor
Today’s sail at the Sailing Academy felt like the first day of spring, with a warm south westerly wind. It helped us forget its February!
We broke into 2 fleets, one working on rudderless sailing techniques and one working on follow the leader and (mostly) dry capsizes. After lunch the wind dropped completely, so one group went ashore to focus on spinnaker rigging with the RS Visions, as the others floated and watched the sea mist roll in. Good practice in changing conditions for the Sweden Expedition. Another good day on the water for the Sailing Academy.
This week our fixture was cancelled but many of the Football Academy players have been practicing their passing and shooting techniques in the lunch enrichment sessions.
The Rugby Academy team practiced their passing technique in Monday night’s training, improving accuracy which will help them in match situations. The rugby fixture was cancelled this week.
This week’s enrichment has been great so far. At lunch, participants have been involved in football, basketball and badminton, as well as using the college gym. There was no session on Tuesday due to the Equine Careers event in the sports hall and no cricket on Wednesday but the students made great use of the gym and played on the sports fields instead!
In the evenings, residents have been using the gym and attending climbing club, and quite a few are looking forward to tomorrow’s dodgeball match!
