Plumpton College were delighted to award Sussex Butcher of the Year to Coughtrey's Butchers at the Sussex Food and Drink Awards held on Wednesday night.
Plumpton College, in partnership with RP Meats sponsored the category which, when judging, were looking for a top quality butchers shop, offering a good range of locally reared meat that gives little bit extra in terms of quality and service. A C Coughtrey Butchers is based in Pulborough and started out over 25 years ago.
The other two grand finalists were Nick the Butcher, based in Hartfield and Glyn Thomas and Sons Butchers situated in Lindfield.
Principal Jeremy Kerswell presented the award on the night along with RP meats.
Judging this category has been an honour and a chance to highlight the growing number of top quality Butchers across Sussex. Plumpton College prides itself on working closely with the industry and supplying the local butchers of the future through the butchery trailblazer apprenticeship. Just last week one of our apprentices was named UK apprentice with the most management potential in the meat industry.
The awards celebrated its biggest year to date with over 3300 nominations, 113,000 public votes and 276 Grand Finalists. The awards are all about supporting and boosting local farmers, food and drink producers and the outlets which use and sell delicious local fare.
Since the original 400-acre College farm was bought back in 1919, Plumpton College has certainly seen a lot of changes.
