Jen Edwards from Lyon Equipment in Cumbria visited Plumpton College to demonstrate some Petzl climbing equipment to students studying on the Forestry and Arboriculture courses.
These included equipment for working at height, work positioning, rope access and arboriculture. Petzl technical instructions are filled with stunning ‘clear line’ drawings to provide a wealth of technical information. The students gained from seeing products such as the descender, mobile fall arrester, ascender, harness and helmets which are seen as the industry standard in the professional marketplace.
Plumpton College offers a wide range of full and part time courses in Forestry and Arboriculture. These include free taster courses for those at school, a diploma in Woodland management and countryside skills through to Foundation Degrees both in Arboriculture and in Forestry and Woodland Management. The College also caters for courses in woodland management, forestry, arboriculture, crafts and countryside skills. A wide range of apprenticeships are available. Part time courses include tree surgery, tree identification, oak timber farming, domestic us of chainsaw and an introduction to mobile sawmilling.
The specialist training centre at Flimwell is located in an established woodland setting and comprise a purpose built workshop with dedicated provision for the range of training courses. The Centre is ideally located on the A21 at Flimwell, East Sussex on the border with Kent.
Since the original 400-acre College farm was bought back in 1919, Plumpton College has certainly seen a lot of changes.
