Gardener trained to Level 4 standard with 19 years experience of working in large country gardens. Sole trader but now working alongside his previous apprentice twice a week who agreed to work for the employers clients on a self-employed basis. Employer can offer training and guidance in a wide range of horticultural skills and the successful applicant would now also receive additional mentoring from the employer’s previous apprentice. Apprentice wanted to work alongside myself in predominantly a large country garden in Kent four days a week and once a week in a smaller country garden near Lewes, East Sussex.

Applicant must be able to think on their feet and will be trained to be competent in the following tasks:

  • Mowing 
  • Strimming
  • Brush cutting
  • Hedge cutting,
  • Border maintenance
  • Planting and establishment of a wide range of plant stock
  • Plant identification
  • Pest and disease identification
  • Orchard maintenance
  • Wildflower
  • Meadow maintenance
  • Some vegetable gardening
  • Glasshouse work
  • Pruning and training 
  • Water feature maintenance
  • Garden waste management
  • Working week - 4 days a week on site, 1 day a week at Plumpton College 8am – 4pm winter hours/8am - until required from spring to autumn, 7pm being the absolute latest finish. We work a minimum of eight hours a day.
  • Total hours per week: 40.00

  • Expected duration - 24 months

  • Possible start date - 04 Mar 2019

Desired qualifications

Possibility of further work with the employer or employer’s clients. We are aiming to form a stable team working to a high standard maintaining and advancing clients gardens on a long term basis.
