'This is a delicious house...' remarked Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother on her honeymoon at Polesden Lacey. This country retreat, only four miles from Dorking and junction 9 of the M25, has glorious views across the rolling Surrey Hills and acres of countryside to explore.  It was home to the famous Edwardian hostess Mrs Greville, who entertained royalty and the celebrities of her time.
The 30 acres of gardens are split fairly equally into formal gardens and pleasure grounds offering a walled Rose Garden, double herbaceous borders, an Iris Garden, Lavender Garden, Winter Garden, Spring Borders, Croquet Lawn, formal hedging, a Pinetum, vegetable garden, orchard, glasshouse, wildflower areas and much more besides.

Apprenticeship schemes are a great opportunity to combine learning, training, and real work experience.

You will be based within one site or team within a National Trust property.  Working in a supported learning environment, you will undertake basic tasks in your department relating to your choice of apprenticeship.

As a Gardening Apprentice you will be involved with basic, routine duties such as mowing, soil cultivation, weed control, pruning and planting.

You may also assist in the delivery of events and other activities.

You will actively participate in your own development plan which will be agreed with your line manager and the training provider.

You will undertake training and constructively take part in meetings, supervision, seminars and other events designed to improve communication and assist with your effective development.

You may also assist in the delivery of events and other activities, working alongside our large teams of volunteers.

In addition to the training and support you receive from the property, you will be expected to study for agreed qualifications with an approved training provider.  In order to gain your qualification, you will undertake regular workplace assessments with the college representative / training provider associated with your apprenticeship and will complete an end of placement assessment.
