We are offering a 12-month contract for an assistant herdsperson, looking to make their way within the dairy industry.  The successful candidate will be working with an exceptional head herdsman, responsible for a 400 strong, organic cross-bred autumn calving herd in a newly built state-of-the-art unit.

We require a candiate looking to take the next step in their career within the dairy industry.  Relevant qualifications, experience and a positive attitude are essential, however training and extended qualifications are encouraged and will be given.  The role will be to support the herd manager in the day-to-day care of the cows which will included milking, calving, calf-rearing, medication administration, foot-trimming, health and fertility management, grassland management and record keeping.

The farm aims to stay as self sufficient as possible, growing all its own forage crops and grass, with a team supporting the field work and rearing youngstock from weaning to calving.  The farm extends to 1000 acres, about 300 of which can be easily accessed by the milking herd during the grazing season, via a newly constucted network of astro covered cow tracks accessing paddocks.  Cows will be milked through a hich-spec newly installed Fulwood 24:48 parlour.  The buildings have excellent handling facilities with a collecting yard with auto shedding gates, auto footbath, vet race and electronic foot-trimming crush.  Cows are housed during the winter months, with an auto-scraper system in straw bedded cubicles.

The contract we are offering is flexible, but based on a minimum 285 day basis, with the option to extend the contract for a further 12 months, allowing for career progression and development.  Accommodation is provided in the form of a mobile home on site with utilities included.
