This foundation diploma has been developed with working people in mind, so this course consists of the key modules from the Foundation Degree in Wine Production offered part-time over two years.
The course is particularly relevant for those already employed in vinegrowing or winemaking, but anyone who wants to establish their own small-to-medium-sized vineyard and winery would benefit.
Study comprises of theory sessions in the classroom and practicals in the vineyard, winery and laboratory. With a focus on vinegrowing in the first year, you will cover vineyard establishment and management, including tractor driving and vine pruning. You will also learn vital underpinning knowledge relating to winemaking, including chemistry and wine analysis.
In the second year, you will develop a deeper understanding of theoretical and practical winemaking, spending half day per week in the winery, assisting in the production of the College’s award-winning wines. There are also several opportunities to undertake study tours to European vineyards.
Attendance is normally on a one day per week basis, except for the Wine Analysis module, which is delivered as an intensive four-day course.
