The key role for a Stockperson is to raise the animals with optimal welfare and consideration for their needs throughout the different stages of their life.
Responsible for their own work, but will have close supervision, a stockperson undertakes practical work involving a combination of technology and manual labour. Being a stockperson requires compassion, self-motivation and the ability to work in a team and independently.
This apprenticeship covers the core requirements for looking after animals competently along with specialist training covering beef, pigs, sheep or dairy.
Regular learning, skills and knowledge assessment and research work at Plumpton College (term time only) alongside blended online learning. Quarterly workplace competency and efficiency observation, assessments and reviews.

Apprentices will have practical workshops at Plumpton’s Lamberts farm, consisting of 2000 acres in the most beautiful setting of the South Downs, with a 300 dairy cow herd, large pig herd, extensive sheep flock and pedigree Sussex beef herd; access to the latest technology available in the agriculture sector, alongside teaching and farm staff that have many years' industrial experience and excellent relationships within the local farming community; and the opportunity to receive discounts on further sector specific qualifications, such as a forklift licence.
