If you've successfully completed your Foundation Degree in Outdoor Education or on an equivalent course, this programme will build on your management skills with a view to becoming an outdoor leader.
You'll look into the theoretical exploration of current issues and contemporary outdoor adventure design while gaining invaluable practical experience in both land and water-based activities. You can look forward to lots of personal challenge too, as you'll enjoy week-long residentials which will give you a direct experience of leading outdoor adventure activities in a variety of different environments.
What does the course cover?
This is a really flexible course. So you can choose whether to study full-time over a year, or two years part-time. You'll get to follow a programme of exciting modules which will develop your knowledge of research and recent developments in this sector. Developing your knowledge of outdoor adventure delivery; you'll enjoy interesting modules including environmental sustainability, ethics, outdoor education, programme management and psychology. You'll be able to tailor your programme to your experience and your planned career specialism. The course will also give you the opportunity to gain further skills and National Governing Body awards.

I came to Plumpton College looking for a degree that could be transferable to many different careers, as I wasn't sure what I wanted to go into afterwards. The staff are really approachable, enabling our session content to be much more tailored to us. I also found that with the other students, we formed a really close friendship group which made the residential weeks away, and the course generally, really enjoyable.
I am now working as an instructor at one of London Youth's outdoor education centres. I am enjoying the challenge of working with a huge variety of groups and activities. London Youth have a big commitment to staff development with lots of progression routes - they are a brilliant company to work for and Plumpton helped me get there!

Facilities: Our large sports hall at Plumpton is a great venue for a variety of sporting activities. It's also the location for our fantastic indoor climbing wall. Conveniently situated within the extensive Plumpton estate, you'll be able to enjoy all of our land-based and water activities both during your studies and enrichment activities too. You'll be able to challenge yourself and enjoy our extensive range of oudorr equipment including canoes, climbing equipment, kayaks and mountain bikes. Plumpton is also a great place for you to take part in outdoor activities such as camping, navigating and sailing.
Watersports: If watersports is your passion, we have a sailing and watersports academy, run in partnership with a sailing club. The perfect opportunity for you to try out new water-based activities as well as improving our current skills, you'll be able to develop everything you need to become an instructor. It's the ideal location for you to gain experience in the marine and river environment.
Residential Centre: We're very proud of our residential centre in North Wales, at the foot of Mount Snowdon. From here, you'll be able to experience a huge range of adventurous and outdoor activities such as mountain biking, mountaineering, multi-pitch climbing and white water paddlesport.
This course will open up lots of opportunities for you to work within a range of different fields within the outdoor education sector. You could choose employment in the expedition field, instructional work or look to join an outdoor education centre.
