This course if particularly ideal id you're a Service Technician working on cars or vans  in all types of car dealerships and maintenance depots. 

Course content 

You can look forward to a varied programme of modules that also includes a work placement. In addition, you'll gain a broad understanding of Health and Safety in the workplace and all the skills you'll need to work in a garage. You'll also continue your English and Maths up to GCSE level. Modules include: 

  • Carrying out routine vehicle maintenance 
  • Chassis units and components
  • Electrical auxiliary units and components
  • Removing and replacing engine units and components. 

Work Experience

Study programmes include a minimum of compulsory work experience hours achieved through one day a week or block placements. The amount of hours required is dependent on the study programme. 

Industry Work Placement

All students aged 16-18 on our Level 2 & Level 3 programmes will now have to take part in an exciting and compulsory 50-day industry placement programme alongside completion of their vocational course. The programme will give you the chance to gain valuable skills in a real working environment whilst being paired with your ideal employer.

Our mission is to pair students with their ideal employer and to support them continuously during the placement.

There is flexibility on how students complete the placement; it can be during non-college weekdays, weekends, in blocks or over the holiday period. Additional qualification 

You'll be able to study for your Welding Introduction and Grinding/Abrasive Wheels Certificate (which is essential)

Entry Requirements:


  • You'll need to have achieved 2 or more GCSEs between grade 9-3 (previous grade structure A-D) 
  • Successful completion of a Level 1 course in other area and having studied GCSE English and Maths 

Mature students without the above requirements will be considered.

Future Opportunities

By completing this course, you'll be able to go on to complete a Level 3 course in Motor Vehicle or Agricultural Mechanisation. Alternatively, it's a great case for you to go into employment withing vehicle servicing and maintenance.
