Course Outline

This course aims to train practicing mechanics in the new MOT testing techniques introduced by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).

Course Content

At this level you will learn:

> Safe working practices in the vehicle test centre

> How to maintain good working relationships within the vehicle test centre

> How to manage own professional development as an MOT tester

> How to carry out pre-test checks for statutory periodic roadworthiness test

> How to carry out a statutory periodic roadworthiness test

Entry Requirements:

To carry out MOT Tests you must be an approved nominator tester (NT). To be eligible to become a nominated tester you must:

  • Hold a current, full UK driving licence for the vehicle classes you want to test;
  • Have at least 4 years experience in the service and repair of the vehicle types to be tested;
  • Have no unspent convictions for criminal offences connected with the MOT testing scheme or the motor trade, or involving acts of violence or intimidation;
  • Be of good 'repute'

Overalls and safety boots are required.
