This programme will provide you with the core practical skills and knowledge that you will need to succeed in perfecting your portfolio, understanding how to set yourself up in business and preparing to work in the landscaping industry.

Course content:

UNITS:

BUSINESS PRACTICE AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT IN THE LANDSCAPE INDUSTRY - planning, marketing, insurance, tax, legislation, project management, planning schedules

THE USE OF PLANTS IN LANDSCAPING - Bi-Nominal planting system, morphological plant features, landscaping specifications, best plant choice for clients, maintenance, aftercare,

CONSTRUCTION OF HARD LANDSCAPED SURFACES - Setting out, levels, excavation for landscaping, pavement construction technology, excavation issues on site, maintaining landscaped surfaces, maintenance work, paving, detailing.

USING TURF IN LANDSCAPING  - ground preparation artificial turf, natural turf, benefits of turf, installation for natural and artificial turf, maintenance techniques, schedules

LANDSCAPE CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS - soft landscaping, hard landscaping, beds and subbases, fixings for materials, timber joints, sustainability, sustainable legislation, material comparison

Entry Requirements:

Entry requirements:

16-19 years old (key Stage 5) 19+

Either:

  • You'll need to have achieved 4 or more GCSEs between grade 9-4 (previous grade structure A-C) including English, Maths and a Science
  • Successful completion of a related Level 2 qualification at Merit or above
  • Mature students without the above requirements will be considered.

This course is assessed through a portfolio. This will be vital for seeking employment, pitching to clients and also with one day at college will provide the learning and support network for those starting their own design business.
