COURSE OUTLINE 

An enjoyable day will be spent in the stunning Woodlands of Plumpton College learning how to make simple and fun items by weaving willow. During the day you will have the opportunity to create a number of different items as well and gain a basic understanding about materials used and where to find them. The skills you will learn can be used to introduce this wonderful and creative activity to a wide range of children or adults in Forest Schools, Outdoor Play Schemes, in schools or at home. 

COURSE CONTENT 

The group will meet in the Forest School classroom at Plumpton College before transferring to the Forest School site in Plumpton Wood.

Emma Purcell, an experienced basket maker and Forest School Leader will be the instructor for the day supporting and guiding students through the skills and techniques needed to create a range of simple and fun willow items.

Lunch will be a campfire cook-up with sausages, salads, sandwiches and hot or cold drinks.

In the case of inclement weather the course will be held in the Forest School Classroom.

Those attending must be 16 years or over

Facilities at Plumpton are pretty impressive if you are planning to undertake your Forest School qualifications.

Indoors we have the expertise and experience of the Forest School training staff, supported by the expertise of the supporting departs of Forestry, Countryside, Game Keeping and Adventure Education delivered in our modern well equipped classrooms and workshops. Future Opportunities

This course introduces the skill and ideas that can be developed into further outdoor activities, skills and learning opportunities. Further studies in the Forest School qualifications can enable progression to employment, or further study. Students can progress knowledge and learning through progression to the Forest School Level 1, 2 and 3 courses. 

Level 1 Award in Introduction to Forest Schools

Level 2 Award in Forest School Programme Support (QCF)

Level 3 Certificate in Forest School Programme Leadership (QCF).
