ILM Level 2
This programme is designed for those who are entering or new to a management role, or who wish to gain a qualification that formally recognises their skills or those who lead a team and are responsible for its performance.
It is suitable for people who are entering management, or who have the ability and the opportunity to demonstrate recognisable management and leadership skills, for example:
- Providing leadership for your team
- Encouraging innovation
- Allocating and checking work.
By the end of this programme, you will have industry-recognised qualifications as well as:
- Management related knowledge
- Skills experience and competencies, helping to pave the way onto the next step of your career journey in Leadership and Management.
You will study: Level 2 Diploma in Team Leading; Level 1 Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT; Employee Rights and Responsibilities; and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills.
For the Level 2 Diploma in Team Leading (which is a combined knowledge and competency qualification), you will be expected to cover a range of units for which you will need to provide work-based evidence.
To achieve this qualification, you will need to acquire minimum of 40 credits from the following Mandatory Units and a selection of Optional Units, which are all tailored to your job role:
- Manage Personal Performance and Development
- Communicate Work-Related Information
- Lead and Manage a Team
- Principles of Team Leading
- Understand Business.
Your assessor and your line manager will help you decide which Optional Units best fit your job role and select the best ones for you to develop.
How will I be taught?
You will need to attend subject specific taught workshops (per duration of your course). You will be allocated an individual assessor, who will assess you one to one in your workplace. With all of our management programmes we will work with you and your employer to document the 20% off the job training that is a requirement of the qualification. For the Functional Skills, you will attend dedicated weekly workshops and have access to learning materials if you are on an apprenticeship.
How will I be assessed?
For your Diploma, you are assessed by completing an on-line portfolio of evidence using an e-portfolio platform in the first instance or a traditional portfolio, under the guidance of your occupationally competent training assessor. For the Functional Skills, you will be assessed through exams and a Speaking & Listening portfolio of evidence.

You will need an employer who would like to take you on as an apprentice. If you haven't found a suitable employer, we will be able to assist you in finding employment.
You will also attend college for a minimum number of set hours each week.
You will have ideally have achieved GCSE grades A-E or equivalent. If you have an equivalent qualification, we will also take this into consideration, along with any industry experience you may have.
The duration of this programme is 12-18 months.
Non-levy paying employers will share the cost of training and assessing their apprentices with government - this is called ‘co-investment’.
From May 2017, you will pay 10% towards to the cost of apprenticeship training and government will pay the rest (90%), up to the funding band maximum.

WHICH LEVEL SHOULD I CHOOSE?
Level 2 is perfect for you if you are a team leader or potential team leader who needs a solid foundation in management skills. If you are a current team leader, it will help you be more confident in your role. If you are currently part of a team, it will help you make the transition from team member to team leader.
Level 3 is the right choice if you have some management experience as a team leader or first line manager. It will take you from potential management material to respected and efficient leader and help you rise in the ranks.
Level 5 is perfect if you are a middle manager, such as an operations/project manager or department head. It will give you the knowledge and skills you need to take on a senior management role and progress in your career.
WHAT ARE AWARDS –CERTIFICATES - DIPLOMAS?
Awards are bite-sized qualifications, which will give you in-depth knowledge of a specific, narrow subject area.
Certificates are medium-scope qualifications, which cover essential subject areas in detail.
Diplomas are a full sized qualification, which cover substantial subject areas in detail
