There is increasing scientific evidence that regular contact with plants, nature and particularly gardening can improve our physical and mental health. Research has shown that connecting with nature can reduce feelings of anxiety and stress, boost mood and increase energy levels.
During this new course we will explore how nature and gardening can benefit our wellbeing. You will gain an understanding into the theory of why connecting with nature can have such a beneficial effect as well as experiencing it for yourselves by taking part in practical activities.
Focusing on a different theme each week, we will be outside in nature or inside in our propagation and potting areas getting hands on with plants and learning new skills.
There are no entry requirements for this course, just a willingness to be outdoors.
You will need steel toe capped boots and waterproofs.

Stanmer Campus - One Garden Brighton
1 day a week for 5 Weeks
One Garden Brighton
The recent restoration of the walled garden has been managed by Plumpton College. One Garden Brighton is the home of the college’s horticultural centre of excellence, a space for training and education. The campus buildings are nestled within the walls itself and you will see students designing, planting and maintaining the grounds as a showcase for innovation.
One Garden Brighton is place for everyone, a garden made for people. We are a part of our local community; a place to connect, improve wellbeing and discover something new. We support local producers, people and nurture local networks focused on enriching all who visit.
People who finish this course can progress onto further horticulture qualifications, and will have the opportunity to attend future courses around well-being and horticulture
