Register interest

Horticulture is a hugely broad subject that includes planting design, craft gardening, food production, sports turf maintenance, nursery work and garden retail. This distance learning package has been carefully developed in order to provide potential budding horticulturists and gardeners with the underpinning knowledge you require in order to successfully enter into these professions, whilst studying from your own home. This course is also excellent for people who have been working with plants for some time, but would like to know why we do what we do in the garden.

The course will provide you with a Level 2 Certificate in horticulture and focusses on three main aspects.

  • An introduction to the anatomy and growth of plants, that ensures understanding on how to get the best out of your plants, no matter what their intended purpose
  • An introduction to plant selection, which ensures you understand which plants are suitable for which environments, and how you can use these in amazing designs and productive settings to get the best out of green spaces
  • An introduction to plant problems, such as pests, diseases and weeds, and how we can recognise them and make sure they don’t take over our lovely productive spaces

Our online learning platform, will ensure you have easy access to teaching materials, on line support as well as 1-1 telephone discussions to ensure you get the most out of this qualification. Assessments for this qualification will involve small written assessments as well as quizzes. Our teachers can talk you through all of these as they arise.

Once you finish this course, you will be set in good stead to either study a practical horticulture course, enter into horticulture as a profession or move onto a higher level of study.
