The City & Guilds Level 4 Higher Diploma in floristry is the perfect blend of hands-on floristry and theoretical study and will take your professional skills and knowledge to new heights. You will be able to develop and enhance your independent design skills, delve into the process of historical designs and will focus on creative event work. It will teach you how to effectively market and promote your floristry business to stand out in today's thriving floristry industry. Entry Requirements:

Either:

  • Completed a level 3 qualification in floristry
  • Currently working in the industry with relevant experience

Future Opportunities

After completing your course, you can go on to complete a Level 5 Master Florist.

Alternatively you may choose to take on a role in a floristry shop or business, with a view to taking on a management role.

Modules

Botanical Concepts and Practices for Floristry

This unit covers the anatomical structure and physiology processes affecting plant health and growth and the plant in relation to its environment. It also looks at the principles of botanical nomenclature and interior plant display. 

Historical Studies for Floristry

This unit explores historical periods and their influence on floral decoration. This includes historical contexts, design sources, fashion and floral decorations across the range. 

Floral Event Practices

This unit explores the commercial opportunities available to an experienced florist when providing floral decorations for a variety of venues and events. Large-scale and themed designs will be analysed to assess their methods of assembly and commercial viability. The role of an event organiser/party planner will be considered. 

Business Practices for Floristry

This unit covers implementation of procedures to ensure the smooth running of a floristry business. It encompasses customer care, staff supervision and basic training. You will also look at security and awareness of retail legislation. 

Marketing and Promotion Practices for Floistry

This unit covers the implementation of practices in marketing and promoting the business to maximise sales potential. 

Technical Floristry Skills - Tied Designs

This unit enables candidates to construct a wide range of hand tied designs to a high level of high technical competence. Plant material, flowers, natural and manufactured materials will be used to demonstrate correct application of design principles. 

Technical Floristry Skills - Wired and Glued Designs

This unit enables candidates to understand the purpose and importance of wiring and gluing skills. You will demonstrate different methods of wiring, the use of the correct gauges and the safe use of the glue in the construction of a wide range of designs to a high technical competence. 

Technical Floristry Skills - Designs in Mediums

This unit enables candidates to construct a wide range of designs using medium to a high standard of technical competence. Plant material, flowers, natural and manufactured materials will be used to demonstrate correct application of design principles. 

Technical Floristry skills - Design Trends

This unit focuses on the construction and presentation of a wide range of designs, to a high technical competence, using correct trends and inspiration. In addition, candidates will identify significant retail trends and florists influencing international floral design.

Design Concepts for Floristry

This unit enables candidates to investigate, analyse, interpret and apply international floral design terminology, concepts and principles.
