COURSE OUTLINE
An introduction to the basic skills of woodland and countryside management. Students will cover a broad range of practical skills and increase their knowledge and understanding of countryside tasks. A mixture of practical and classroom sessions will help to give you a sound understanding and create an evidence based portfolio. This course will allow learners to progress on to other countryside related courses.
COURSE CONTENT
You can look forward to a varied programme of modules that will be delivered across a number of departments including countryside, game management, forestry and horticulture.
- Coppicing
- Tree and Shrub maintenance, planting and aftercare
- Tree pruning
- Estate skills
- Habitat management.

September 2022 If you are Electively Home Educated, you must have been out of education for minimum 6 months prior to enrolment. All those who are remaining at school will need to have had their place approved by their school prior to applying. All students must be over 14 years of age prior to 31st August. |

2 years, part-time one day per week. |
Future Opportunities
- Students usually come into college at age 14 and are on a two year programme. On successful completion of this they are then in a position to apply for a place on the 16+ full time study programmes. Towards the end of the second year this is discussed with students as part of the progression tutorials.
- On applying for a 16+ course students will be required to attend an interview for the course and will be processed as a new applicant.
- Once students are a 16+ programme they are also in a position to apply for bursaries to support learning, travel etc.
