Building on the knowledge gained at Stage 1, the BHS Stage 2 Care course will develop routine practices on a stable yard, your role, responsibilities and reporting lines. You will learn how to recognize signs of poor health and how to treat.

  • You will also learn how to prepare horses for competition, with tacking up, travel equipment and preparing horses for presentation. In addition, you will learn basic anatomy and physiology and feeding practices.

  • The BHS Stage 2 Ride course will develop your skills in riding individually in an arena showing walk, trot and canter, change of direction and pace through school movements. You will also develop your abilities over fences and jump single fences and a small course of 75 cms.

  • BHS Stage 2 Lunge will assess your competence to lunge a horse for exercise. You will learn how to prepare a horse for lungeing and be able to demonstrate safe lungeing practices. You will also learn how to work the horse in its basic paces, showing consideration for the size of the circle

Our course at Plumpton will cover the BHS Stage 2 syllabus to enable learners to develop the skills to take the associated BHS Stage 2 exams. Please note, successful achievement of Stage 2 qualifications is not guaranteed and is assessed by the BHS during our examination days.

Teach Only -
