What does the course cover?
You'll get to build a sound knowledge of agriculture through a variety of core modules. These will include beef and sheep production, business planning, crop production systems and soil science. You'll not only be in lectures, as you will also get to learn from farm visits, guest speakers, laboratory classes and practical activities. In the second year, you get to decide to specialise in an area that's of interest to you through undertaking a research project. There are also a range of optional modules on offer including conservation grazing, organic production and practice agricultural skills.

At the core of our college farm, amongst our 800 hectare farming operation, you'll have direct access to our superb farming site which includes a large number of livestock and arable enterprises for you to experience.
Set amongst the beautiful South Downs on a variety of soil types, you will gain an excellent hands-on experience. You'll be able to use of extensive resources throughout your studies. These include a 50 cow pedigree herd of Sussex beef cattle, a 550 extensively managed breeding flock of sheep, a 120 sow pig unit, plus a modern 300 cow diary unit complete with a 36:36 herringbone milking parlour. We've also got a 300-hectare unit of mixed rotation cropping.
Once you've graduated, you'll have an extensive knowledge of agriculture which will put you in a strong position for a role in the sector and related industries. Our graduates have gone on to work within farm management plus allied industries such as agricultural sales, agronomy, animal breeding, nutrition plus government bodies such as DEFRA or the Civil Service.
