Students can ‘cherry-pick’ modules from the Foundation Degrees in
Wine Business and Wine Production and attend them as
free-standing units of education to fit in around their busy lives, thus
further developing their interest in wine.
Modules that are currently popular with CPD students include:
- Vinegrowing modules such as Vineyard Establishment and
Maintenance and Vineyard Practical Skills
- Winemaking modules such as Grape processing and
fermentation, Chemistry and Wine Analysis
- Wine Business modules such as Marketing, The Wine Trade and
The Sensory Evaluation of Wine.
It must be noted that, although CPD students do not have to
complete a full qualification (such as the FdSc in Wine Production),
they are expected to complete the assessments set for each module.
They must also respect any pre-requisites for modules that they wish
to study. For instance, the Wine Analysis module cannot be
completed without doing the Chemistry module, or having an
equivalent qualification.
Ultimately, if CPD students think that they will be able to gain enough
credits for a full qualification, they may transfer their registration to
this qualification if they wish to do so and continue to study it on a
full-time or part-time basis.
Normally, each module is delivered over 2 – 3 hours a week (9 a.m. to
5 p.m.), but these might be grouped so that students can do several
modules on one day.
