This course offers the core wine production modules from the
Foundation Degree in Wine Production as a distinct package leading
to a single award. It is particularly suitable for those already
employed in vinegrowing or winemaking, or those that already have a
good background in Agriculture and want to establish their own small
to medium sized vineyard and winery. The programme is offered on a
part time basis only, to meet the needs of those students precluded
by employment or other circumstances from enrolment on the
Foundation Degree.
The course is delivered over 1 to 2 days a week through 2 years. It
consists of a balance of theory sessions in the classroom and
practicals in the vineyard ad winery. Modules are shared with
students studying the Foundation Degree in Wine Production and the
BSc (Hons) Viticulture & Oenology.
The first year focuses on vinegrowing, with students gaining
knowledge and skills in the vineyard establishment and management,
including tractor driving and vine pruning. Students also learn vital
underpinning knowledge relating to winemaking, including Chemistry
and Wine Analysis. In the second year, students will gain a deeper
level of knowledge and understanding of practical winemaking, and
will spend at least half a day a week in the winery, assisting the
production of Plumpton College’s award winning wines.
Graduates from this course would be suitable for employment in
vineyard management, winemaking and associated professions, both
in the UK and throughout the world. The course is also
recommended for those who wish to establish their own small -
medium sized vineyard or winery. Graduates from Plumpton College
wine courses are very active in the burgeoning English Wine industry
and can also be found in countries such as France, USA, Australia
and New Zealand.
