Outdoor Adventurous Activities FdSc

This degree will provide you with a broad foundation in outdoor activities. Modules will cover practical activities, philosophies, social, and cultural aspects of outdoor activities as well as the management based aspects of key areas such as marketing and planning. Plumpton College is the ideal location for this course, providing excellent facilities for a wide range of outdoor activities such as kayaking, mountain biking, hill-walking and climbing. There will also be opportunities for expeditions to areas such as North Wales, the Peak District, Fontainebleau (in France) or Scotland. Applications are welcomed both from school/college leavers and from mature students such as qualified instructors who wish to gain an HE qualification. Applicants should have relevant practical experience or knowledge of Outdoor Activities

Career Opportunities

In parallel with the foundation degree programme students can also study for industry qualifications with BMC, MLTB, RYA and BCU. On completion of the course students will be in a position to apply for supervisory or managerial positions in a number of areas within the outdoor education sector. These may include:

• Outdoor education centres
• Specialist centres that cater for students with challenging behaviour
• The wider national and international expedition industry
• Adventure travel services
• Freelance instructional work.

Alternatively students can choose to progress to relevant BSc (Hons) degree courses.

Typical entry requirements
Individual offers may vary
UCAS tariff: 120 points, from a minimum of one 12-unit or two 6-unit qualifications. Level 3 Key Skills will count towards the tariff score. General Studies will count towards the tariff score.
International Baccalaureate: 24 points.
QAA-approved access course: acceptable.
GCSE (minimum grade C): at least 3 subjects including English language and mathematics or a science.

For non-native speakers of English: IELTS 5.5 overall, 6.0 in writing.

Note: There is a preference for students with a certain amount of outdoor activity experience.
