What is an Apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships are an excellent way of gaining qualifications and experience in work. As an employee, you can earn as you learn and you gain practical skills from the workplace. Apprentices do real jobs for real employers, so you are paid while you learn. If you are entering work for the first time, you will start earning from day one of your Apprenticeship.
There is no set rate of pay for apprentices, however all employed apprentices must receive a wage of no less than £95 per week. As an apprentice, you will receive the same benefits as other employees such as pension contributions, subsidised canteen and leisure facilities.
Plumpton offers two levels of apprenticeship:
Level 2 Apprenticeships
(equivalent to five good GCSE passes) which include a work-based diploma or National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) at level 2, functional skills – English, Mathematics and ICT, and an industry recognised and relevant proficiency certificate.
Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeships
(equivalent to two A-level passes) include a work-based diploma or NVQ at level 3, Functional Skills, and industry recognised and relevant proficiency certificate. To start this programme, you should ideally have five GCSEs (grade C or above) or have completed an Apprenticeship.
Fees
Apprenticeships and Advanced Apprenticeships are fully funded to eligible learners aged 16—18. For learners aged 19+ there may be partial funding available and your employer is asked to contribute towards the programme fees.
Trainer Provider
Plumpton College will assign you a tutor who will help you through your programme and will provide a point of contact with your employer. During training days at Plumpton College, you will undertake both practical and theory work which is structured towards the achievement of the Diploma and functional skills. Delivery of training is generally on a day release basis at the College, but it can be delivered at the workplace.
Employers
Whether you already have an employee that requires a structured training programme, or are planning to employ an Apprentice in the near future, the benefit to your business of ongoing training is clear; better employee commitment, quicker development of commercial skills, better self motivation and ability to work as part of a team.
We can help you advertise free for potential employees via the National Apprenticeships Service online website. Skills brokers will channel any enquiries for your vacancy as well as the enquiries from learners that we have from our dedicated Work Based Learning Office.
