Plumpton College is located at the
foot of the South Downs. The beautiful and idyllic situation offers students a
perfect environment in which to study their chosen subject. The College is only
six miles from Lewes, and nine miles from Brighton. Major transport routes are
within easy reach and London is only an hour away.
The College was purpose-built in 1926 and many additions have been made since
that time. It is situated in the heart of a 700 hectare estate which provides
excellent practical and demonstration facilities for students across a very
wide range of land-based courses. Students benefit from the following:
-
Wine studies students learn in a new state-of-the-art commercial winery and
benefit from three college-run vineyards producing award-winning English wines.
-
The equine unit consists of two well-equipped yards: a traditional yard of 20
boxes and an ‘American Barn’ design yard with 40 boxes, as well as two indoor
schools, horse walker, jump cross course and cross-country course.
-
The Animal Care unit has an wide range of animals for teaching purposes and new
ventures include wildlife breeding programmes.
-
A new Horticultural facility has just been completed as a result of the College
achieving ‘Centre of Excellence’ accreditation in this subject area and
horticultural and garden design students benefit from extensive and
wellmaintained college grounds.
-
The large estate provides wide opportunities for countryside, agriculture,
forestry and arboriculture students to develop vocational skills.
The HE provision at Plumpton College is offered in partnership with the
University of Brighton, who are responsible for approving the courses, ensuring
their quality and awarding the qualifications. This allows Plumpton College
students to have the best of both worlds: you can study in Plumpton College’s
idyllic environment with its unique facilities, and can also benefit from
membership of one of the country’s most popular universities.
As University of Brighton students, you can use University facilities such as
libraries, computer pools, accommodation service and Student Union. The
University also provides a range of student support including welfare services,
career planning and financial advice. Many of our HE students live in Brighton
and take advantage of its cosmopolitan culture, lively art and music scene and
coastal and downland setting.
Brighton is a great place to be a student. In fact students make up over ten
per cent of its population. The seaside city is bright and bustling, upbeat and
unconventional, cosmopolitan and contemporary. It has an energy and buzz that
students love. There’s everything you’d expect to find in a city here and a
friendliness big cities often don’t have. And Brighton really does offer
something for everyone - whether you’re into sport, music, the arts, shopping,
or just putting the world to rights over a meal or a drink. Alternatively you
may feel lost in the city and prefer to live in the peace and tranquillity of
one of the nearby downland villages. It’s your choice!
There are now new opportunities for part-time study in higher education to achieve a part time HE qualification called the Foundation Diplomas. Click on this link for more details.
Most modules are available on a CPD (Continuing Professional Development) basis, which means that you can take individual modules as stand-alone short courses. For further information on which modules are available in this way please contact the course leader for the foundation degree in which the modules are offered.
