Plumpton College offers a wide range of subjects at either Foundation Degree or BSc.(Hons) level. There are over 400 students studying university level courses.
The College has an excellent reputation for its courses which have a particular focus on vocational learning. All of our university courses are validated by the University of Brighton which means that you will be part of a university with a reputation for excellence in teaching and research, and is ranked as one of the top modern universities in the UK. You will also have use of the University services and facilities. In addition to this you will benefit from the specialised provision which the College offers which includes a modern winery and, new agricultural ,equine and animal care facilities. As well as teaching the College has several modern commercial units to enable you to be involved in commercial work in aspects of your subject. This will give you the opportunity to develop 'hands on practical skills' as well as academic knowledge - a mix which is very important for employment.
Many of our graduates have progressed to good careers within the land-based industries, careers which have included Conservation officers, farm managers, wildlife rangers, garden designers, estate managers, winemakers and wine buyers.
FdSc is a Foundation degree in a Science based subject and is a Level 5 qualification, it is the equivalent of the first two years of a full BSc and students can opt to 'top-up' to a full BSc at some universities. An FdA is a Foundation degree in an Arts based subject and is a Level 5 qualification, it is the equivalent of the first two years of a full BA and students can opt to 'top-up' to a full BA at some universities. Both qualifications were written with industry standards at the forefront and provide a degree level academic education alongside practical skills.
The FDip is a Foundation Diploma comprising 120 credits – 60 credits at Level 4 (first year university level) and 60 credits at Level 5 (second year university level). The Foundation Diploma is a very practical course providing excellent vocational training taken on a part-time basis so students can work in the industry alongside their studies.
Higher Education – September 2012 fees, fee waivers and bursaries
Plumpton College currently delivers Higher Education courses in partnership (funded through and validated by) the University of Brighton. Government has recently introduced methods of increasing the range of educational institutions that will be able to directly offer Higher Education places to prospective students. Plumpton College has applied to the Higher Education Funding Council for England for such a contract and we will know the outcome of our bid by 27 January 2012.
If you are applying to Plumpton College for a place on a FULL TIME HE course, the government initiative will increase the chances of you securing a place and will bring some cost savings to you.

Entry Requirements
Foundation Degrees and Foundation Diplomas
Students will normally have a minimum of 120 UCAS points in the form of one of
the following:
-
At least one GCE A-level.

An Advanced GNVQ.
-
A BTEC National Diploma as awarded by Edexcel.
Plumpton College has a policy of inclusiveness and welcomes applications from
those with non traditional educational backgrounds who do not have the normal
entry requirements or from those who may be returning to education after a long
break. These applications.will be assessed at interview using portfolio
evidence and employer references.
Honours Degrees
Students will normally have a minimum of 280 UCAS points usually in the form of BCC at A-level.
Alternatively the following will be considered:

A BTEC National Diploma as awarded by Edexcel (assessed at interview).

IB: 24 points, specified subjects.

For international students IELTS (English proficiency): 6.0 overall, 6 in
writing.
In addition, for both Foundation Degrees and Honours Degrees, all applicants
should have GCSE (min grade C): mathematics and English language.
Assessment
There is a balance of theory and practical within modules so the assessments vary accordingly.
Each module is normally timetabled for a 2 or 3 hour session per week (throughout the semester) and may have several assessments.
The assessment modes vary:- written reports (eg essay, lab report, literature review), practical assessments, oral and/or powerpoint presentations, exams, group work.
At the beginning of each semester students are given an assessment schedule to help them to plan for their assessments.
